California's Central Coast
Diocese of Monterey
Our parish in the wider family of the Catholic Church.
Immaculate Conception Church is part of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Monterey in California — the local Church of the Central Coast. Under the care of our bishop and in communion with the Holy Father, our parish shares in the faith, sacraments, and mission of a diocese whose roots reach back to the first Franciscan missions of California.
Our Bishop
The Most Reverend Ramón Bejarano
Bishop of Monterey
Born in Texas in 1969, Bishop Bejarano was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Stockton in 1998 and served as an Auxiliary Bishop of San Diego from 2020 to 2026. He is known for his pastoral closeness to immigrant communities and his dedication to social justice and the dignity of every person. As our chief shepherd, he leads the Diocese of Monterey in faith, charity, and mission.
Appointed by Pope Leo XIV on December 17, 2025, and installed as the Bishop of Monterey on February 19, 2026.

A Heritage of Faith
The Catholic faith came to this coast with the Franciscan friars of the eighteenth century. In 1770 Saint Junípero Serra founded the Mission San Carlos Borromeo, and from Monterey the Gospel spread through the missions of the Central Coast. The cathedral of the diocese, San Carlos Cathedral in Monterey, stands among the oldest churches in California.
The Diocese of Monterey was first established in 1840 and, after several reorganizations of the Church in California, was reestablished in its present form on October 6, 1967. Today it serves the Catholic faithful of Monterey, San Benito, San Luis Obispo, and Santa Cruz counties through dozens of parishes and missions — Immaculate Conception in Tres Pinos among them.
