Marriage

Beginning the journey toward the sacrament of Holy Matrimony.

About this sacrament

In Holy Matrimony a baptized man and a baptized woman freely give themselves to one another in a lifelong covenant of faithful, fruitful love that images the union of Christ and his Church. Because marriage is a sacrament and a lifelong commitment, couples are asked to contact the parish at least six months before the desired wedding date. This gives time for the required marriage preparation, the gathering of documents, and prayerful discernment so that your marriage may be built on a firm foundation.

Before you begin

  • At least one of the parties must be a baptized Catholic in good standing.
  • The couple completes a marriage preparation program (such as Pre-Cana or an approved equivalent) coordinated through the parish.
  • Recent sacramental documents are needed — a newly issued baptismal certificate for each Catholic party, and confirmation records where applicable.
  • Any previous marriage must be resolved by the Church before a date can be confirmed; please mention this so we can assist you.
